"BANDIT"

It was a warm spring day. We kissed the kids goodbye and told them we would be back soon with our new puppy!
We drove to Ma. and I remember the moment I saw him as though it were yesterday.
He was playing ball in the front yard. Eight weeks old and so full of life.
We got out of the car. My husband helped "Edie" down from the back seat.
We brought her along because we really needed her approval also.
She seemed to like him but we were realistic in the fact that she would be the boss and would teach him to treat her with respect. We were mentally preparing for the disputes that would occur. Much like sibiling rivalry. Although male and female bull terriers can co-exsist in a home, you never really know how they will re-act.
We had inquired about getting another bull terrier earlier that year. One was available at that time.We had some situations at that time and were unable to get that male.  I am so glad too. There is not a dog alive that I would want instead of him. I have heard many times that you get the dog that you are meant to have. All bull terriers are individuals with individual personalities. Bandit is the most loving male dog I have ever known. His temperment is outstanding. His patience admirable and his playfulness is abounding. And he is nice to look at too. It wasn't always this way......

AKA "Bandit"

Now it wasn't all roses all the time. When Bandit turned seven months he changed. This cute adoring puppy turned into a stubborn, chew anything his path, never settle down monster.I was highly frustrated with his behavoir.Instead of reaching out to my breeder I tried to fix the situation myself. That didn't work.I really didnt know what was wrong.I thought we had made a big mistake. We wanted to give him back.
Thank goodness for the relentlessness of my breeder she set me straight.
She informed me that Bandit was going through puberty. That was what going on.He was not trying to intentionally drive me insane. He just needed to be reassured of the rules and I was reassured by my breeder that this was a temporary situation. I sighed a deep breath of relief.I should have reached out sooner.Just knowing that information about him enabled me to have a better understanding. It also gave me the patience that dealing with a teenage male bull terrier requires.
My breeder was right. He outgrew puberty and developed into the most amazing dog ever.
We could have had him nuetured and that would have eliviated that situation but I am glad we chose to stick it out.
Bandit occasionally gets into trouble these days .Nothing that I can't handle though.I learned that connecting with others who have been through life with a bull terrier is a must.
